Sam Long had to settle for a tough no-decision on June 7th despite putting on a spectacular strikeout clinic against the Giants. The Marines’ starting right-hander put together a highly effective 5.0 innings, throwing 89 pitches and allowing only three scattered hits. While he flirted with danger by issuing four walks, Long completely neutralized the threat by racking up an incredible eight strikeouts to power his way out of trouble. He demonstrated elite damage control, limiting Yomiuri to just a single run. Even though he didn’t pocket the victory, his season ERA sits at 4.23, and this dominant performance proved that Long has the elite swing-and-miss stuff to spearhead Marines rotation.
