The Yomiuri Giants have officially reached an agreement with right-handed pitcher Spencer Howard, who impressed in his NPB debut season with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.
In his first year in Japan, Howard made history by winning five consecutive starts from his debut, setting a new franchise record for Rakuten’s foreign newcomers. Standing 190 cm tall, the power right-hander features a high-velocity fastball topping out at 158 km/h and a sharp slider.
A former 2017 second-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Phillies, Howard made his MLB debut in 2020. He brings awealth of experience to the Giants’ rotation, having appeared in 47 Major League games with teams including the Phillies, S.F.Giants, and Guardians.
