NPB Pacific League:Saitama Seibu Lions
Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) announced today, November 4, that the Saitama Seibu Lions’ infielder J.D. Davis has been officially posted as a free agent. Rumors are already circulating that several other NPB clubs are actively pursuing the veteran slugger.
Davis, 32, joined the Lions mid-season on July 11. Known for his power, the veteran brought 72 career Major League home runs to the team. Prior to his arrival in Japan, he had played in 50 minor league games with the Angels organization this season.
In his time with the Lions, Davis appeared in 36 first-team games, where he hit three home runs and posted a .204 batting average.
Upon his departure, Davis offered a statement, reflecting on his time in NPB:
“There were many difficulties coming in mid-season, but at the same time, there were many enjoyable moments. [Because I joined halfway through the season] I didn’t focus on personal goals or statistics, but I enjoyed learning about Japanese baseball and culture, and having this new experience. I believe the Lions will continue to get stronger and stronger. Thank you for your support.”
